Florence police report that a tug boat has sank in the Tennessee River near O’Neal Bridge. After sinking, the boat began to release diesel fuel into the water.
Authorities say the boat is capable of holding up to five thousand gallons of fuel, but they do not know yet how much has been spilled.
Diesel fuel has began to wash up on the beaches of McFarland Park, and officers are warning people to stay out of the water and off the beaches until further notice.
